Job Title: Water Sports Instructor
Location: Southwark, London (various outdoor activity sites including Surrey Docks Watersports Centre)
Employer: Southwark Council
Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Fixed-Term / Seasonal / Casual
Working Hours: Full-Time or Part-Time (weekend and evening availability required)
🌊 About the Role
Southwark Council is looking for enthusiastic and qualified Water Sports Instructors to deliver exciting, safe, and inclusive activities to residents of all ages and abilities.
Based primarily at Surrey Docks Watersports Centre, this role offers the chance to work on the water in a vibrant and diverse borough. You’ll be delivering a range of sessions such as kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and powerboating – from taster classes to accredited courses.
🛶 Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality water sports sessions to children, young people, adults, and schools

Set up, maintain, and safely operate watersports equipment

Provide clear instruction and ensure participant safety at all times

Carry out dynamic risk assessments and emergency procedures

Assist with centre duties including customer service, kit issue, and cleanliness

Support inclusive programming, encouraging participation from all backgrounds
🧭 What We’re Looking For

Hold at least one NGB instructor qualification (e.g. RYA Dinghy Instructor, British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor, or Powerboat Level 2)

Up-to-date First Aid and Safeguarding certificates

Experience instructing individuals and groups in outdoor or watersports environments

Excellent communication and people skills

Able to work flexibly, including weekends and evenings

Passion for water-based activities and community engagement
