Position: Temporary Accommodation Officer

Location: Nottingham City Council Offices, Loxley House (plus visits to temporary accommodation sites across Nottingham)
Contract: Full-time, Fixed-term (12 months)
Hours: 37 hours per week (may include occasional evenings as needed)
🏠 About the Role
Nottingham City Council is committed to preventing homelessness and ensuring that those in housing crisis receive safe, supportive temporary accommodation and pathways to long-term housing. We are recruiting for a compassionate and proactive Temporary Accommodation Officer to help manage placements, maintain high standards, and support vulnerable clients throughout their stay.
📋 Key Responsibilities

Coordinate placements into temporary accommodation across council-managed and contracted properties.

Conduct eligibility assessments and risk checks for applicants, ensuring compliance with policy and safeguarding.

Maintain accurate case records, update management systems, and track client progress and accommodation statuses.

Liaise with landlords, housing associations, health services, and partner agencies to facilitate placements and support provision.

Conduct regular property inspections, monitor standards, and ensure safety/compliance (including fire, gas, and environmental checks).

Provide welfare support to clients, including advice/referral to benefits, mental health, and housing support.

Support clients in moving to sustainable longer-term housing and advise about rights and responsibilities.

Resolve issues such as rent arrears, property damage, tenant disputes, and anti-social behaviour.

Monitor and report occupancy levels, voids, and waiting lists to inform operational decisions and budgets.

Share service feedback and inform policy development for temporary accommodation and homelessness strategies.
✅ Essential Qualifications & Experience

Experience in housing, homelessness, social care, or a related field.

Knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act, housing allocations, licensing, and welfare benefits.

Strong case management and organisational skills, with attention to detail.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to manage a varied caseload and respond flexibly to changing priorities.

Competent IT skills (e.g. Excel, housing management databases).

Full clean UK driving licence; use of private or available local mileage vehicle.
🎓 Desirable Qualifications & Skills

Experience working with vulnerable clients, risk assessment, or safeguarding protocols.

Familiarity with mediation, tenancy sustainment, or housing-led support.

Knowledge of private rented sector issues (e.g. PRS licensing, landlord-tenant relationships).

Qualification in Housing or Social Housing Management (e.g., CIH).

Understanding of financial management and reporting related to accommodation budgets and void control.
