Job Description:

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain to join our team. This role involves providing spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff across our healthcare facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering pastoral care services that respect the diverse spiritual needs and backgrounds of our community.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, families, and staff, respecting diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.
  • Offer counseling and support during critical incidents, illness, and bereavement.
  • Conduct religious services, prayer sessions, and other spiritual activities within the hospital.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to integrate spiritual care into overall patient care plans.
  • Participate in the training of staff and volunteers on the importance of spiritual care in healthcare.
  • Maintain records of pastoral interventions and participate in clinical multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Serve as a liaison between the hospital and local religious or spiritual communities.
Requirements:
  • Endorsement from a recognized faith community and relevant ecclesiastical authority.
  • Experience in pastoral care, ideally within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and counseling skills with the ability to support individuals in crisis.
  • Sensitivity to a wide range of spiritual, religious, and cultural values.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A degree in theology, divinity, spiritual care, or a related field is highly desirable.
