Job Description:

Network Rail is currently seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Platform Assistant to join our team at the Birmingham station. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers while maintaining smooth operations on the platform. The successful candidate will assist with various duties including customer service, ticket inspections, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the platform area.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist passengers with inquiries, providing accurate and timely information regarding train schedules, delays, and station services.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers on the platform, guiding them during arrivals and departures, and managing crowd control.
  • Perform ticket checks and assist with ticket sales when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order on the platform, ensuring that safety signs and equipment are clearly visible and accessible.
  • Make announcements over the public address system as required.
  • Report any safety concerns or incidents to the station manager or relevant authorities promptly.
  • Assist passengers with special needs, ensuring they receive appropriate support and access to services.
Requirements:
  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
  • Good physical health, as the role requires standing for extended periods and handling of heavy equipment occasionally.
  • Previous experience in a customer service or transport role is preferred but not essential.
  • A high level of vigilance and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
