Job Description:

Network Rail is seeking a skilled and dedicated Technician (Track Maintenance) to join our team in Sheffield. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of our rail services by maintaining and repairing railway tracks and related infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing regular inspections, conducting repairs, and assisting in the implementation of track upgrades and replacements.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of railway tracks, including rails, sleepers, and ballast, to ensure they meet safety standards.
  • Identify and repair track defects and damages, utilizing specialized tools and equipment.
  • Operate various machinery required for track maintenance and construction projects.
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians and railway engineers on larger maintenance projects and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations during all maintenance activities.
  • Document maintenance activities, track conditions, and repair work in maintenance logs and reports.
  • Participate in emergency response teams to handle urgent track repairs as needed.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in track maintenance, construction, or a similar technical field.
  • Strong understanding of railway safety protocols and standards.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and use technical equipment proficiently.
  • Excellent physical condition, capable of performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work in shift patterns, including nights and weekends, as required for track maintenance and emergency responses.
